Have you started climbing the walls yet, wondering when you'll be able to watch some Gopher volleyball? Well, the Spring season is upon us. Our Gophers started the season in Puerto Rico, which wasn't an option for many of us (if you're one of the lucky few, I envy you, and never want to see you again!) But now, there are two more match dates that are a bit closer to home.

One of the benefits of being a Golddigger is that you are invited to attend post-match receptions, generally held in the Club Room after the last home match of each weekend. This year, we plan on holding receptions on Aug 26th (alumni match), Sep 15th, Sep 23rd, Sep 30th, Oct 13th, Oct 27th, and Nov 17th. It's possible that one of the Sunday dates (Sep 23rd and 30th) will be converted to a pre-match tailgate party, depending on interest and our ability to get permission from the University.
These receptions give you the chance to mingle with your fellow boosters, talk one-on-one with the coaches and players, and find out what they thought of the match, and of the unfolding season. Of course, we also have a lot of really great food and snacks!
There will be an Alumni match on August 26th (Sunday) at 1:00PM. Come on down to the Sports Pavilion to watch the new team in action, cheer on your favorite players from previous years, and have a good time.
You're invited to join the Gopher VB players, coaches and other Golddiggers at the 8th Annual First Practice/Dinner event at the UM Sports Pavilion on Friday, August 10, 2007.
Admission to the last hour of team practice is free. Dinner in the (air conditioned!!!!!) Club Room afterwards (~6:45 pm) with the players and coaches costs $10.00/person, and $5.00/child 12 and under ($25.00/family maximum), payable at the event. Checks should be made out to the 'University of Minnesota.'
You must RSVP to attend the dinner. Because the event is catered, we cannot accept walk-ups for dinner that evening. Also, because the event is catered, and we have to tell the caterer how many to provide food for, we have to insist that you pay, even if you end up not being able to make it.

The long, dreary summer is almost over, and a new volleyball season is about to begin! Soon, the Pavilion will become the sauna of choice for volleyball fans. Soon, we'll be able to use our vacation days in order to travel to scenic BigTen campuses, as well as strange and exotic non-conference sites, to see our favorite team in action. And soon, the Golddiggers will be getting together to celebrate another night (or day) of Golden Gopher volleyball!
