Unfortunately, there will not be a bus for the road trip to Wisconsin and Northwestern for Gophers’ fans. Nonetheless, several of us are still making the trip, and we hope to see many more Minnesota fans at both sites.
Golddiggers apparel is now available. Orders that have already been taken should be filled and waiting at the first Big10 home weekend, 9/30-10/1. Information will be available at the reception if you have not seen the flyer.
Booster club membership packets will be distributed at the Saturday 10/1 reception, following the Michigan match.
The Golddiggers are also involved with producing a photo-banner for the 2005 Gophers squad. Watch for details about 8x14 photos available for sale.
Dave Boos and Jill Pearson will be coordinating “Chalk Talks” again this year. This is an analysis of the evening’s match and takes place just before the team’s warmup. Look for times and location in the next newsletter.
FRI 9/23/05 7pm @ Wisconsin
The Badgers, currently ranked tenth in the nation, are off to an 8-1 start, and just completed a sweep of #13 UCLA in Madison this past Sunday. Wisconsin is hitting .290 as a team, while their opponents averaged only .097. They are led by Sheila Shaw (.337) and Taylor Reineke (.400) in the middle, and Audra Jeffers at opposite (.358). Jocelyn Wack, at libero, is averaging 4.96 digs per game. With 8 players listed at 6’1” or taller, it’s not too surprising that they are also averaging 3.76 blocks per game. The Badgers only loss was to #8 Missouri -- this will be a formidable test for the Gophers.
SAT 9/24 @ Northwestern
The Wildcats are 9-1 on the season, including wins over Georgia Tech and Kentucky. Their sole loss was to Arizona. Brittney Aldridge leads Northwestern with a .372 hitting percentage, followed by Cassie McLaughlin at .348. Christie Gardner, their libero, is averaging 4.10 digs per game.
